Ankita Mookherjee is an Assistant Professor of sociology at a government-funded women’s college in West Bengal, India. She has previously taught at the University of Delhi and St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata. Ankita earned her Ph.D. in sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, where her thesis explored paradigms of social identity and difference. She earlier received her Master's degree from Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, where she ranked second in her class and received the prestigious Junior Research Fellowship awarded by the University Grants Commission of India. As a “prabasi” Bengali who has returned to her state, she is committed to make a difference to the lives of the first-generation women learners with whom she engages. She is keenly interested in breaking gender stereotypes and enabling her students to conceptualize, create, and partake in sustainable livelihood opportunities in their local communities, in the face of deep-seated inequalities. Ankita is always looking to learn, believes that ideas must travel freely and insists that the merit of ideas lie in touching lives in meaningful ways.
