In partnership with the Foundation for Ecological Security (FES), Sujay Hammannavar contributes to strengthening multi-actor collaborations and learning processes that support resilient and inclusive landscape governance. His professional interests lie at the intersection of ecology, economy, and culture. He is particularly drawn to themes such as degrowth, socially and environmentally responsible business, and embedding bioregional approaches within Indian civil society organizations. Through qualitative research, stakeholder engagement, and program design, Sujay seeks to connect grassroots realities with broader systemic change efforts. Over the years, he has worked across different regions of India — including Goa with UNDP India, Telangana with ITC Limited, and Uttar Pradesh with the Jagriti Enterprise Centre Purvanchal — contributing to initiatives on circular economy, sustainability, and local enterprise development. Sujay grew up in Belagavi, a border city where Karnataka meets Goa and Maharashtra, and where languages, cuisines, and cultural traditions blend seamlessly. This multicultural upbringing not only nurtured his sensitivity to diverse worldviews but also made him a polyglot —he now speaks six languages with ease. Academically trained in environmental engineering at Shivaji University, Sujay also holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Policy and Technology from Imperial College London, along with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Environmental Law and Policy.
